The Righteous Text sages are an ancient organization of martial scholars. They strictly adhere to the philosophy they are named for, reputedly set down by the first Immortal Alchemist Chu. The Righteous Text preaches societal structure almost as a form of religion. Though it does not forbid other religions, a true disciple worships nothing but the idea of "Civilization". The Righteous Text is at the heart of the belief that the order of the heavens is matched by the order within Shiyan. Personal cultivation is highly valued, as is knowing your rank and obeying anyone of a higher rank than you. The two greatest virtues are sacrifice and revenge. You are expected to sacrifice personal freedom and even your life when Civilization requires it, because the needs of the many are more important than the needs of the one. You are expected to avenge your parents and elders if enemies destroy them. This rigid code benefits society as a whole, but often at the expense of selfless and patriotic disciples. It can also be confusing and conflicting, as now some sages wish to avenge the death of the late Dragon Emperor, but also seek to keep the ordered rule of the Tigers, seeing them as the legitimate leaders of current Civilization. Student robes are blue, and masters tend to wear mainly blue to show their affiliation with the school.

Structure

The Righteous Text sages are built around schools. Some schools are explicitly for swordplay, but many focus on literature, ethics, and penmanship to various degrees. The headmaster of the school is the Shifu. Everyone but the Shifu are considered students, and students are ordered by age group and then talent. Students are often referred to by this rank: "First Brother", "Seventeenth Sister", and so on.

Creed

The Righteous Text sages are part of the Valiant Societies, and gains Fame and Infamy as normal. Absolute traditionalists, sages are often seen as uncompromising and xenophobic. They have mixed emotions towards the Tiger Dynasty, who embrace the equality of women taught by the Righteous Text and ignored by the Ming, but who have also destroyed the previous government, opened the realm to other races such as the direclaws, and violently suppressed scholars and rebels who opposed them. Their best wisdom indicates that the Tigers are linked to Civilization, and so must be protected and obeyed.

Once a member of the Righteous Text Order, you may also gain Infamy for breaking the creed, as well as the Infamy you can gain from the Valiant Societies.
