Righteous Text Ascetic
An ascetic lives by the words of the Righteous Text. They set aside petty things like lust or greed in favor of becoming living symbols of virtue. They teach, found schools, and above all attempt to hone their minds and bodies to perfection. Most overcompensate for their own failures and end up self-righteous, rather than righteous. But still, ascetics command great respect in the martial community, and have been pillars of the Valiant Societies since before most of the societies existed.
As an ascetic you are pursuing perfection, and your map is the Righteous Text. The path is confusing and contradictory. You shouldn't become embroiled in politics, but you should help people in need which sometimes forces you to pick a side. You must ruthlessly avenge any fallen ancestors, and accept that virtuous descendants of your victims will someday come for you. When extremes of honor and virtue come into conflict, the loser should always be your own happiness.
- Challenger. You push your own limits and the boundaries of the martial arts in general. You seek a worthy opponent, someone to really test you and force you to achieve greatness. Ambitious and Callous are common faults if you get caught up in winning and lose sight of virtue.
- Paragon. Your entire life is about cultivation, achieving a purity of purpose and thought that will lead to a breakthrough in sword technique. If successful you'll be known as a Sword Saint or a God of Blades. Often grim or modest, you may be virtuous but you may not be much fun.
- Strategist. Your studies are focused on the art of war and the rule of nations. Although the sages as a whole are neutral, you are a loyal adviser to once side or another. You may be devoted due to a debt of honor or to support a sworn brother (or even blood relations) in their patriotic endeavors.
What kind of ascetic will you be? Will you sacrifice everything in the name of virtue? Or will you stray from the proscriptions of the text and forge your own unorthodox path?
