A reaction modifier is usually appropriate when you are attempting social interactions, like attempts to influence people in a dispute. Most individuals will start neutral towards you. Alliances, abilities, faults, your band's reputation and your own actions may alter this reaction.

Treacherous -2 If you are dishonored or have done something directly negative.
Proven +2 If you are daunting, allied, or have done something directly positive.
