You fix damaged items. Normally repairing an item is a complication against half the target needed to build it, plus 5 for each missing hit. Every 5 margin repairs a hit, and finishing removes any markers. Repairing an item only requires material to cover your failure margin. If you don't have material, the consequence becomes new hits damage to the item instead. Having a forge grants a bonus to the check, but if you couldn't build the item you suffer a penalty to try to repair it. You also suffer a penalty if the item has a marker.
