Protect

You can intercept an attack aimed at someone else. Normally you may only contest an attack that targets you.

Protect: If you are within reach of an attack line you may choose to block or parry the attack. If you lose the contest you may choose to suffer the effects in place of the target.

Evolutions
- Close Escort: Select an adjacent ally when reflex is revealed. Discard one card revealed, and you both act simultaneously on the remaining card.
- Heroic Shield: You may dive on to an attack line, and if you succeed you become the new target.
- Watchful Guardian: You ignore extra effects from surprise attacks.
- Team Defense: You gain an extra guard each turn you are within reach of an ally who also has this evolution. Allies with this evolution may use your guards and defenses.
