Free Shield Paladin

Paladins take the knighting ritual of the Free Shields very seriously. They are expected to follow an exacting code of gallantry. First, they are sword to protect their nation and its people. The exact definition of nation depends on how rebellious a paladin feels. Second, they are expected to right wrongs, especially gaining revenge for attacks or insults. And third, they are expected to be loyal to other knights, their teachers, and their families...in exactly that order.

As a paladin, you put the traditions of the Free Shields first. You are patriotic, likely chaffing under the rule of the Tigers, but you are also well aware that starting a war will hurt the very people you are sworn to protect. How do you live honorably in a dishonorable world? You could don a mask like the White Cranes, or focus on the every day honor and practices of the sports associations. Or you could go a little bit crazy.

  • Eccentric. You are a self-appointed paragon of the ancient Order of the Free Shield. You defend travelers on the road as a shining vigilante, and take on quixotic quests at the slightest provocation. You would be arrested, but the authorities don't consider you a threat due to your good nature and probable mental illness. An eccentric is often befuddled, flamboyant, or oblivious.
  • Enthusiast. You have embraced the arts and traditions of the Free Shields for their own sake. You practice, preserve, and perfect the forms. Enthusiasts are often teachers and respected members of the Valiant Societies. Enthusiasts are often competitive or gregarious. Once you become older and wiser you tend to attract students who will be competitive and gregarious for you.
  • Fugitive. You are accused of a deviant crime and in hiding from the martial world and the authorities. The poor, mysterious, and wanted faults are all especially appropriate, and you may want a False Identity as an asset. You take humble jobs and hide your skills until you can prove your innocence or redeem your guilt. Of course friends and innocents get into trouble, forcing you to reveal your skills and start the hunt again.

What kind of paladin are you? Are you preserving the past, or fighting for the future? How do you reconcile the warrior nature of your knighthood with the milder messages of the sports associations?
