| − | Areas are large enough to contain several characters. When more than one character is in the same area, it's called an overlap. If the characters are friendly there's no ill effect. However moving into an opponent's overlap ends your shift. Any opponents in the area may use a defense to stop you from leaving the area. If the defense (either a dodge or a parry) succeeds then you may not make any shift other than to exit to an adjacent area in front of the opponent's flank.
